Shifting the Paradigm? How beginning with likeness helps us celebrate diversity more

Date: November 11, 2024

Time: 1:00 PM

Workshop Description

Ironically, we can sometimes get so busy designing great programs and implementing the solutions we have created that it is possible to forget to go back to the basics of WHY we are doing these things. What is it each child needs no matter their external diversity? Sometimes we need to revisit our basic reasons for doing what we do and remember WHY SEL is so critical to a child’s current learning and future well-being.

Workshop Description

Sometimes in DEIJ discussions, we talk first about the differences we are rightfully trying to bring into some form of unity. What happens if we first talk about ‘likeness’? How might that help to create a truer unity while also leading us to recognize the uniqunesss and ‘hidden diversity’ of each person with whom we meet, work, or teach? This session will give both teaching and breakout room time as we explore these thoughts together.
