As AI increasingly permeates the educational landscape, schools are grappling with how to responsibly integrate these powerful technologies. Some institutions have embraced AI without robust ethical guidelines, while others have taken a prohibitive stance. Amidst this complexity, School Counselors have a crucial role to play in fostering productive dialogues and balanced AI policies.
This session will examine key academic institutions’ stances on AI, including official statements, guidelines, and ethical frameworks released. Participants will gain insights into the nuanced perspectives influencing AI’s adoption in schools. However, position statements alone are insufficient. We’ll discuss how schools need pragmatic strategies that uphold ethical AI use while harnessing its benefits for student success.
School Counselors, with their student-centric approach and ties to all stakeholders, are uniquely positioned to guide this conversation. By embracing their voice, School Counselors can steer schools towards balanced AI policies that prioritize student wellbeing, ethical conduct, and equitable access to AI’s advantages.
