How to Run a Book Study at Your School: The Revised and Expanded Second Edition of One Trusted Adult

Date: April 15, 2026

Time: 1:00-2:00pm UTC

About this webinar

It’s been six years since the first edition of One Trusted Adult came out, and a lot has changed in schools and youth-serving organizations around the world. During that time, Dr. Raney has been working with thousands of incredible educators, parents, and community leaders who are deeply committed to the growth and well-being of young people. Their experiences, her doctoral research, and cutting-edge research of others have combined to inspire her to update and add to the original book.

Young people today are at greater risk than ever. Concerning factors include: years of pandemic disconnection, dramatically increased mental health issues, a widespread loneliness epidemic, a rapid surge in technology use, unprecedented levels of burnout among educators and youth-serving professionals, increased debates around parental rights, high levels of chronic absenteeism. What they need is not another app, it’s a person. An accessible, boundaried, caring trusted adult, and ideally many such adults, who show up, listen and believe in them.

Here’s what you’ll find in the Second Edition:

  • New frameworks for building trust and connection, and maintaining healthy boundaries, including the ABCs, the 4Cs, the BASICS.
  • Tools for strengthening teams of trusted adults, because the more trusted adults, the greater the protective factor for youth.
  • New stories illustrating the challenges for adults, and youth, and best ways forward.
  • Reflection questions, suggested language, specific strategies.

This is more than a slight revision; it’s in many respects an entirely new book.

In this one-hour webinar, Dr. Raney will discuss the new insights in the book, and share with participants a book study guide and tips for running a book study at your school.
