Dr. Emily Meadows is an internationally recognized LGBTQ+ consultant with nearly two decades of global experience advocating for LGBTQ+ safety and belonging. Her practice spans a wide range of cultural and legal contexts, including regions where LGBTQ+ identities are criminalized. With risk persistently present in this work, Dr. Meadows has developed practical frameworks to advance LGBTQ+ rights, even under high-pressure conditions.
During this interactive session, Dr. Meadows introduces the compliance-resistance continuum, a strategic tool designed to help participants
critically assess and navigate pressures to participate in the exclusion and erasure of LGBTQ+ people. We consider various forms of compliance and resistance to anti-LGBTQ+ pressures within today’s complex socio-legal-political landscape using a structured approach that balances professional priorities, potential risks, and meaningful impact. Participants will leave with a range of concrete, actionable strategies to build LGBTQ+ inclusion in their practice, supported with clear guidance for implementation.
This session aims to help participants align their personal and professional values with substantive action, while navigating risk, by offering safe, practical pathways for advancing LGBTQ+ safety and belonging in international schools.
